BRIANNA SUSAN SMITH is a multi-disciplinary performance artist with a focus on social justice and lasting community engagement. She has spent the last four years working as the Founding Artistic Director of TAPROOT and the last seven years as a director, choreographer, designer, educator, collaborator and performer on new scripts and established works in Charlotte, NC. Her writing has been featured on Howlround and in Charlotte-area publications and she frequently offers workshops on devising and social justice. Most recently, she presented at Performing The World Conference on the subject of creating new work for disenfranchised audiences using sensory experience. Her work has been featured in festivals and events throughout the southeast. Her newest work, O, Sea! is an exploration of ancient ritual and mythology as context for a contemporary culture of violence against women.
